Job Description

Job Summary

As a part of the Sendik’s team, the Caterer is responsible for delivering “best in class” customer service to all guests at the Deli counter and on the sales floor. The main responsibility of the Caterer is to manage and prepare customer catering orders, as well as, prepare deli trays for the Deli Department. The Caterer will also assist in miscellaneous duties, such as, but not limited to, filling the Deli case and salad bar when it gets low, maintaining the back coolers and cleaning.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Serve customers in the Deli Department while modeling Sendik’s culture and providing “best in class” customer service, which includes, greeting, engaging, delighting and thanking every guest for their business

  • Communicate directly with catering customers via phone, email, or in person, in regards to event details and make recommendations for their catering needs

  • Manage catering orders including, but not limited to, production scheduling, communicating with transportation to schedule catering deliveries and preparing orders for the following day

  • Communicate with Deli Salad Production and Deli Associates regarding the product needed for catering orders

  • Prepare items for Deli island, including, but not limited to, packaged foods, taco salads, pizzas and wraps

  • Prepare catering trays, including, but not limited to, cheese and meat trays, fruit trays, sandwich trays, vegetable trays, and shrimp trays

  • Maintain sanitation and temperature logs

  • Assist Deli Chef and Cook with minimal food preparation

  • Operate, maintain and clean deli equipment including knives, ovens, fryers, dishwashers, coolers and slicers

  • Assist with the training and mentoring of new associates in the Deli Department

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment by adhering to safety/sanitation regulations and procedures

  • Assist with all other Deli Department duties as needed

 

Qualifications

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age due to required operation of Deli equipment

  • Proficient knife-handling skills and comfortable with working with various types of food

  • Eagerness to interact with customers

  • Strong sense of team – ability to anticipate the needs of the team

  • Ability to work at a fast paced and efficient manner

  • Ability to take initiative and make decisions independently regarding department needs and priorities, under general supervision

  • Excellent time management, prioritization and organization skills

  • Ability to stand, walk, lift, bend, push/pull for extended periods of time

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
