Brief Job Summary
This position works with the General Counsel, the in-house legal team members, and the client service team of a national marketing agency with its headquarters in Milwaukee, WI. Key responsibilities include working with the GC and outside legal counsel to manage legal research conducted by the agency, understanding the client’s marketing promotions and advising the client services team regarding compliance with laws applicable to the promotions, and drafting and negotiating various contracts between the agency and third parties required for the promotions. Strong interpersonal skills, comfort with responsibility, ability to take initiative and being solution-oriented are essential to success in the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Understand the client promotions in detail and interpret and apply the legal research conducted by the agency necessary to advise the client services team regarding compliance of the promotions with state and local law.
Review, draft and negotiate third-party contracts needed by the agency for promotional programs consistent with agency and client contracting requirements.
Serve as a key advisor to the client team to find contract and compliance solutions for new promotions and changes to existing promotions.
Maintain contract database for all promotional programs.
Organize, coordinate and manage legal research conducted by outside legal counsel.
Serve as a liaison with state and local permit and licensing officials.
Complete, file and manage all permit and license applications necessary for promotions
Manage state and local reporting necessary for any permits or licenses maintained by the agency.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Good legal research skills and ability to interpret and apply research to promotions.
Good understanding of contracts and demonstrated ability to negotiate and draft contracts.
Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work as part of the team.
Ability to work independently, take initiative and solve-problems.
Good time-management, organizational and management skills.
Proficient in Excel and Word and on-line research.
Educational and Experience Requirements
Experience with legal research and contract drafting is necessary. The position does not require a specific legal background but the preferred candidate will have a Bachelors degree in paralegal studies, a paralegal certification or a four-year degree with the appropriate legal or contracting experience. Past experience in a position demonstrating initiative, leadership, organization, teamwork and a familiarity with contracting and the ability to apply legal research will be considered strongly in addition to educational background.
