Job Description

Aurora Health Care was created around the idea that there is a better way to provide health care. We are currently seeking a dedicated, part-time Patient Access Assistant for our Aurora Medical Center, Hartford who is enthusiastic about providing exceptional patient care. Imagine yourself...
*Serving as the principle contact for the department. Customers include patients, visitors, general public, physicians, physician office staff, nursing and other entity employees. Using judgement in dealing with patient/visitor related problems (i.e. disruptive individuals, patient/visitor collapse, etc.).
*Maintaining confidentiality in regards to patient personal/financial information and medical records. Determining whether patient information can be released (via telephone or in person) to nursing units, service departments, physicians, residents, visitors, insurance companies, law enforcement agencies, media and general public.
*Answering and screening incoming/clinical phone calls. Responding to a wide variety of questions requiring considerable knowledge of department/hospital. Attempting to resolve issues to limit call forwarded to other staff as appropriate.
*Monitoring patient flow to ensure they are cared for in the most efficient and courteous manner.
*Assisting in meeting the needs of all visitors.
*Attempting to resolve any issue to customer satisfaction with each encounter before involving direct report.
*Maintaining calendar of events for appropriate use in disseminating information. Maintains information relative to departmental and provider locations throughout the facility.
*Obtaining consent signatures for general medical care/hospitalization, etc. for legally appropriate family member for patient too critical to have signed themselves.
*Assisting in admission or scheduling functions such as making ID bracelets for pre-admitted patients, performing medical record number searches, compilation of documents, etc., tasks are appropriately prioritized, determining urgency and responding accordingly.



Skills / Requirements
General Qualifications

*High school education or equivalent.
* Previous reception and/or clerical experience are preferred.
*Must have excellent customer relations, communication, and organizational skills with special attention to detail and the ability to adjust presentation to fit customer need.
* Basic computer skills such as Windows, Microsoft products or Registrations Management Systems or similar experience.
*Must be able to handle large workloads and many interruptions in a fast paced environment without direct supervision.


Desired Qualifications

*Previous reception and/or clerical experience are preferred.
*Must have excellent customer relations, communication, and organizational skills with special attention to detail and the ability to adjust presentation to fit customer need.
*Must be able to handle large workloads and many interruptions in a fast paced environment without direct supervision.
*Bilingual skills preferred.
