Nursing Career Development Program Information & Guidelines What's in it for you? Horizon Home Care and Hospice and the United Way of Greater Milwaukee are teaming up to provide a comprehensive free Nursing Career Development Program. This is an excellent opportunity to be trained and gain employment into highly in-demand health care professions. The 3 stages of this program are as follows: Stage 1: CNA Training class - You will attend classes in an accredited program. The CNA Training class (including materials, certification and testing costs, and required physical exams) is free to all students accepted into the program. In addition, you are paid $7.25/hr while you are in class! ATTENDANCE and PUNCTUALITY are MANDATORY. If you miss even one class, you will not be permitted to complete the program. Once you have completed the class, you will take an exam to earn your Certified Nursing Assistant license. Stage 2: Home Health Aide employment at Horizon You must commit to at least one year of full-time or regular part-time (minimum 20 hrs/wk) employment as a CNA / Home Health Aide and abide by regular employee standards. Horizon aides will be paid $10.73/hr to start and are eligible for full benefits. Stage 3: Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse degree program After six months of employment, you are eligible for tuition reimbursement. We aide you in your enrollment into an LPN or RN program. Upon graduation, you will be a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse and can seek employment. Typically, a full-time LPN earns a minimum annual salary of $28,000. You also have the option of continuing with your education on your own to obtain a higher degree. To help you successfully complete all three stages of the program, each trainee will be guided by a Career Development Mentor. We are looking for dedicated, motivated, hard working individuals eager to take advantage of this free opportunity to gain valuable career training and employment. To join the program, you must meet the following requirements: Eligibility Requirements Be at least 18 years old. Individual annual income no greater than $20,000 and a total household income of no greater than $40,000. High school diploma or GED with a grade of C or better in high-school level Biology. Valid driver's license, automobile insurance, and a reliable vehicle. No DUI / OWI citations in the past 3 years or history of suspended / revoked driver's license. No convictions for crimes related to the job of a Horizon Home Health Aide (including assault, theft, drugs, etc.). Meet all Medical Requirements, including passing a physical and drug screen. Have a sincere desire and ability to successfully complete the three stages of the Nursing Career Development Program, including the CNA Training Class, 20 hrs/wk or more (including every other weekend) employment as a CNA / Home Health Aide, and entering an accredited LPN or RN program.
