Jobing Description
Knowledge of theory and principles of paramedic practice; knowledge of nursing and health care; knowledge of prehospital emergency care; knowledge of Emergency Medical Systems; skill in applying the concepts of prehospital emergency care and nursing practices; skill in the care of patients; ability to evaluate students; ability to use computers, audio visual aids and office equipment to produce curriculum for Emergency Medical Technicians; ability to create tests; ability to design courses; ability to evaluate the quality of care provided by paramedics; ability to identify and resolve systemic problems; ability to apply concepts of prehospital emergency, paramedic, and nursing studies to research projects and tasks; ability to lift up to 50 pounds up and down two (2) flights of stairs; ability to enter and exit an ambulance, public building or private residence or any scene of an medical emergency; and ability to work effectively and harmoniously with administration, students, staff, patients, and others.

Under general supervision, to prepare, develop and present Emergency Medical Services curriculum content to students; to assist in the development of new Emergency Medical Services course; to develop, and administer student examinations; to oversee student training in field and clinical settings; to provide State mandated continuing education to licensed paramedics; to perform quality assurance of field operations of the Milwaukee County Emergency Medical Services system; to assist in other projects and tasks as assigned; to participate in the research and evaluation of the Milwaukee County Emergency Medical Services system; to maintain records and prepare reports; and to perform other duties as may be assigned.

Skills / Requirements
Licensed or eligible for licensure as a professional registered nurse in the State of Wisconsin required at time of application and maintained during incumbency. Possession of a valid Wisconsin driver’s license required at time of application and maintained during incumbency. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) provider certification required at time of application and maintained during incumbency. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) instructor certification and Advanced Life Support (ACLS) instructor certification and licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic required within six (6) months of appointment and maintained during incumbency. Possession of a valid Emergency Medical Technician Basic license preferred. Possession of a bachelor’s degree required from an approved college or university in health care or in education preferred. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) provider certification preferred.

One (1) year of experience as an Emergency Medical Services prehospital emergency care provider required. Experience as a registered nurse in an emergency department or intensive care unit preferred. Experience as a flight nurse and training Emergency Medical Staff preferred.
