Post Date: May 29, 2009 All names will be removed from eligible lists (1) year after eligibility is established. Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing required; registered or eligible for registration as a nurse in the State of Wisconsin required. B.S.N. preferred. Applicants currently in their final semester of study will be considered as meeting the degree requirement pending proof of graduation. Experience: Two years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care or correctional facility required. Supervisory experience desirable. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of and skill in professional nursing practices; knowledge of effective supervisory techniques; skill in identifying and resolving patient care problems; oral and written communication skills; ability to direct, schedule, evaluate, and discipline staff; ability to participate in the appropriate steps of the grievance process; ability to work effectively and harmoniously with inmates, staff, health professionals and others. DUTIES: Under direction, to provide on-site supervision for Health Services staff at the Jail and House of Correction; to coordinate and be responsible for the delivery of timely, safe, quality health care in a correctional setting on an assigned shift; to identify and resolve client care problems; to support, interpret, and implement policies and procedures of the facility’s Health Services unit; to monitor providers for compliance and quality of contracted services; to supervise licensed nursing, ancillary and clerical staff on a particular shift; to act as a liaison with inmates, families, courts, attorneys, and allied health professionals; to participate in the appropriate steps of a grievance process; to respond to media inquiries; to coordinate response with appropriate agencies regarding public health issues; to compile the monthly shift supervisor staffing schedule for shift and facility assignment; to fulfill staffing needs with replacements when necessary; to maintain records and prepare reports; and to perform such other duties as may be assigned. THE EXAMINATION is open to qualified residents of the United States. Appointee must establish residence in Milwaukee County within six months of appointment and maintain such residency during incumbency. The noncompetitive examination will consist of criteria deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources to rank applicants on the eligible list for this position.
