Education: Licensed or eligible for licensure as a licensed practical nurse in the State of Wisconsin. MUST BE LICENSED AT TIME OF HIRE.

Experience: Experience in the care of aged, chronically mentally ill or developmentally disabled persons is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to perform basic routine nursing tasks involved in caring for the mentally ill and developmentally disabled; knowledge of the basic science, theory, practices, methods, and techniques of nursing; understanding of the principles of patient care and of the techniques and methods of practical nursing; ability to work effectively and harmoniously with others.

DUTIES: Under Registered Nurse supervision, to perform selected nursing procedures with chronically mentally ill and/or developmentally disabled clients needing long term care; to administer selected medications, to provide active treatment, to observe, record, and report client's behavior, conditions and reactions; and to perform such other duties as may be assigned.


THE EXAMINATION is open to qualified residents of the State of Wisconsin. Appointee must establish residence in Milwaukee County within six months of appointment and maintain such residency during incumbency.

In accordance with Rule III, Section 12 of the Civil Service Rules, a noncompetitive examination will be held for this position. The noncompetitive examination will consist of criteria deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources to rank applicants on the eligible list for this position.

This requirement impacts all positions authorized in Milwaukee County department of Human Services, Mental Health Division as well as other positions in County Service.
