Job Description: Software Programmer – Middleware Team

The middleware team is an application services organization consisting of resources that specialize in the middle of software development and server system administration. The team is responsible for maintaining, monitoring, and administering middleware applications used between the software and OS layers.

As a member of the Middleware Team, you will be responsible for maintaining relationships with our Shared & Emerging Services, Open Systems, Networking, and Enterprise Architecture team. This relationship includes regular status reporting, support, infrastructure forecasting, and enterprise planning.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Provide configuration, monitoring, and technical support for WBMI web application servers (IIS, Apache Tomcat, and JBoss)

Sonic ESB configuration, monitoring (via Actional), and support

Track and deploy vendor and proprietary software upgrades and patches as it relates to integration tools. This would be in partnership with the Open Systems and Storage team.

Make appropriate infrastructure recommendations to enhance middleware performance and operations

Work with architecture to assess future middleware applications

Work in partnership with Open Systems and Storage to create and deploy middleware systems and middleware monitoring solutions

Create and distribute monthly usage reports for all middleware applications

Provide data to infrastructure planning initiatives

Global .NET Framework configuration

Plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard information in Internet/Intranet applications environment against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification or disclosure.

Train and develop technical support and applications staff to better utilize on-line processing web applications environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Understanding of networking concepts and their relationship to middleware

Familiarity with system monitoring applications and techniques (Solar Winds, Compuware Network Vantage, etc)

Familiarity with web/application servers (IIS 6.0, Apache Tomcat, and JBoss)

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Exposure to Java application programming

Exposure to .NET application programming

Preferred Education and Training

5+ years performing in a Middleware Administrator role or equivalent experience with previously mentioned technologies
