Come join me at WISPRR Membership Meeting: Betsy Falk, Guest Speaker "Where, What, Why, and When Will Companies Be Hiring?"
posted Wednesday, August 26, 2009 1:20 PM
Time: September 15, 2009 from 7:30am to 9am
Location: UWM - School of Continuing Education Organized By: Todd Nilson Event Description:
Do you know how unemployment is determined and tracked? What occupations and industries may present good opportunities in the future? This presentation provides labor market information for the seven counties in southeast Wisconsin, with particular attention to Milwaukee city and county. Past and present data on employment, along with industry, population, and occupations projections, will help you make sense of the job market. As a seven-county region, southeastern Wisconsin is on the way to building a talent development network by engaging and aligning business, educational systems, economic development, and workforce development organizations. The Regional Workforce Alliance (RWA) and the Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) initiative play major roles in the transition. This session offers an overview of the strategic approach of the RWA. Elizabeth (Betsy) Falk is a labor economist who has experience as a business owner, working for public companies in technical and training positions, and teaching at technical colleges. Now part of the Wisconsin Office of Economic Advisors, she provides labor information about Milwaukee and southeast Wisconsin to businesses and individuals. We are currently seeking a food sponsor to cover defray the costs for a continental breakfast provided by UWM catering.

I'm a Recruiter: How do I fit in to JobCamp?
posted Wednesday, June 17, 2009 1:18 PM
The second Milwaukee JobCamp is just around the corner and it promises to be bigger and better (twice as big, twice as good) as the last one. On July 9th, we'll have a great number of job seekers, entrepreneurs, and, yes, hiring professionals coming through the door. The event is paid for through the kind contributions of employers who sponsor us in exchange for an opportunity to provide quality information to the community, perhaps identify some talent for their organizations, and position themselves as employers of choice via our many advertising, promotional, and event-based opportunities. Heck, sponsors will even get a filmed interview in front of a live studio audience about why their organization is a wonderful place to work.
As an individual recruiter or hiring professional, though, you may wonder just how to go about signing up for the event if your company is not sponsoring. Let me suggest a couple of courses. First, if you're an independent, a third party recruiter, or a corporate recruiter and you're not a sponsor, then you have two options. A) You can attend and make a donation of $50 payable to GoIndigo, LLC, the event management company behind JobCamp; or B) You can volunteer a chunk of your time at the JobCamp as a resume advisor, an interviewer or in another volunteer role. That's the beauty of JobCamps being based on the BarCamp model. Contribution is at the heart of the success of events like this. Second, if you are a recruiter who is out of work, we'd still love it if you could volunteer. It looks good on a resume and shows that you're involved in the community. But since you're in transition yourself, we're not charging. Just like any other job seeker, please bring along a non-perishable food item that we'll contribute to the Hunger Task force. To sign up for the second Milwaukee JobCamp, point your browser to our Eventbrite site. Milwaukee JobCamp March 26th

On Thursday, March 26th, from noon until 9 p.m., employers and job seekers will come together to try a new kind of job networking event, a Milwaukee JobCamp.
What is it? Think of JobCamp as a twist on your typical, boring sorts of job fair events. In addition to building some core breakout sessions that we believe will be of great interest to both employers and job seekers, we're following the popular BarCamp format, meaning that if you have an idea about the job search, or a great new way of identifying potential employees for your organization, or if you'd like to just have a session where you talk about potential new business startup ideas, you can propose a session and get others to attend. The event is going to be held at Bucketworks, just north of downtown off of the McKinley exit of I-94, so getting there and parking is a snap (there's plentiful street parking for at no charge). We're still planning the program and talking to sponsors for the event, but a few have already lined up, including Jobing.com. Stay tuned for more updates as I have them! In the meantime, we have set up a Meetup.com group for those interested in signing up early and proposing sessions. The cost of entry for job seekers, by the way, is free. Well, almost. We're asking that you bring a non-perishable food item that we can dontate to a local food bank.

Best Practices in Recruiting UnConference! Tuesday, July 8th
posted Wednesday, July 2, 2008 6:25 AM
Every year, WISPRR holds a summer event that draws recruiting
professionals from across southeastern Wisconsin to discuss trends in recruiting as well as best practices and tools current to the recruiting profession. Join us for a two-hour, whirlwind UnConference on Tuesday, July 8th, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event will be held at the Jobing.com headquarters, 2514 S. 102nd Street, West Allis, WI 53227. You will get the chance to engage with thought leaders in recruiting and bring fresh ideas back to your daily hiring practices in your company. What is an UnConference? An UnConference is an less conventional approach to conferences with high admission costs and highly paid "name" speakers. UnConferences are more relaxed events designed to create an atmosphere of collaborative learning and the free exchange of ideas. For the Best Practices in Recruiting 2008 UnConference, the event will be structured around the principle of active participation of all attendees. What does that mean? Well, you're expected to get involved in as many discussions as possible both during and after the event. When the UnConference is over, you're encouraged to put up blog entries, pictures, and more thoughts about the event and its impact so that the WISPRR membership can share and benefit from your ideas. What will I get out of the event? As a result of attending, you will get the opportunity to learn and share the best approaches to recruiting available in the marketplace today, such as: * Working with hiring managers effectively * Unconventional approaches to finding candidates * Next generation interviewing and selection approaches * The latest tools of the trade The event also serves as an excellent place to network and establish new connections with other recruiters for future joint projects! What will I need to bring to the event? Just yourself. Of course, you can bring along a laptop, camera, or anything else you think might help while you're there, but this isn't going to be a session where you'll sit in one chair and absorb information the whole time. There will be white boards, markers, flip charts and separate seating areas for different discussion areas. Spend your Lunch Our With Us and Feed Your Brain! We'll have plenty of food and drink available for you during the sessions. We're asking only for a $5 donation from members and a $10 donation from non-current WISPRR members. Questions? Call Nancy at (414)224-7962. We hope to see you there! WISPRR Staff
