Blog Post: Certified Skills

You probably know someone who has been laid off recently. Every sector has been hit with economic hardship and heads are rolling. Maybe now you’re out of a job or worried about keeping your job. Keeping your skills sharp and investing in some additional training is an excellent way to stay competitive. It might not keep you from being laid off, but it may make the transition to a new position easier.
Consider earning an industry certification. Earning a certification demonstrates your commitment to your field, perhaps leading to better job opportunities and more money. This is particularly pertinent in the IT industry. Once you’re certified, you become a member of a professional network. One look at your credentials and an employer should have a pretty good idea what you’re capable of. A certification is not a magic bullet, however. You still need to have a good attitude, people skills and some experience to land a job. (No on-the-job experience? Try volunteering or working for dirt-cheap at a non-profit.) Don’t expect that employers will knock down your door simply because you have a couple of letters behind your name. At TechSkills, we focus on preparing students for the real world, offering flexible schedules, hands-on skill building and fabulous instructors. Students can pursue coursework to earn IT certifications from Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA, Oracle and several other enterprises. We also offer certification programs in Medical Coding, Pharmacy Technician and Project Management. One quick call to our Admissions Guys, Jeff or Tim, can help you get ahead.
